Informal talks planned to discuss Batavia senior housing proposals
Batavia officials and property developers are inviting residents of neighborhoods near two proposed senior housing projects to informational meetings.
Both meetings will be at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave.
People interested in the DKI project at Main Street and Deerpath Road can attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Those who want to talk about a plan for Janet Lane on the south side of South Drive, near Fabyan Parkway, can attend one at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Both projects will also be the subject of formal public hearings before the Batavia Plan Commission at 7:30 p.m. March 9.
Representatives of both projects are asking the city to amend its zoning map and change the land-use classifications for parts of their sites to residential use, from current designations for office and commercial use. The Janet Lane proposal also seeks to annex some of the site to the city.
The two projects want Illinois Housing and Development Authority tax credits, and must have zoning approval by April 15 to apply for such this year, according to city officials.
DKI would like to build about 100 units, in a three-story building. Information on the Janet Lane proposal was not available.
