Be evenhanded on mosque issue

I am writing in response to Robert Elliot's Feb. 17 letter, “Here's a solution to mosque debate.” Mr. Elliot stated that we should allow the right to religious freedom to Muslims only when other parts of the world extend that freedom to Christianity.

I quite often thank our Founding Fathers for our Constitution, which clearly prevents our country from sinking to every lowest common denominator in the world. It protects Islam, Christianity and every other religion from institutionalized bigotry. Individual bigotry obviously exists. Bigotry never has been a solution to any issue.

I hope that our legal system decides whether DuPage County has been evenhanded and within the law in its dealings with the proposed mosques.
