Wheeling parks summer camp sign up to start

Registration for Wheeling Park District Summer Camp begins Tuesday, March 1. A variety of affordable day camps for children ages 3-14 years are offered with an emphasis on fun, positive, active experiences.

Amenities throughout the Community Recreation Center and Heritage Park, including the award-winning outdoor Aquatic Center, provide exciting and varied sites conducive to keeping kids safely entertained all summer long.

Weekly registration options and differently themed camps offer something for everyone. Mix and match sessions and camps to create a summer to remember. Swim lessons and before- and after-camp care are also available. The 10 one-week camp sessions start June 13. The last day of camp is Aug. 19. Scholarships and Payment Plans are available. Children who attend school District 21 and school District 23 receive resident rates.

Rookie Camps include “3 Like Me,” two days a week for two hours, for 3- to-4-year-olds; and “Camp 4 Me,” for 4- and 5-year-olds, Monday through Thursday, from 9-11:45 a.m. “WhoYaWannaBe” is the general camp for those in kindergarten through grade six. It meets Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camp Hooya! is offered from 9 a.m.-noon, five days a week, for 4- to 8-year-olds. Specialty camps include Sports Zone for grades one-eight and The Crü for 11- to 14-year-olds.

“Club 333” is an extended-care program for campers from 4- to 14-years of age. Full-day campers may participate in optional swim lessons two days per week.

Counselor-In-Training is for those in grades seven-nine. CITs assist camp counselors by helping with craft projects, participating in games, and acting as good role models for younger campers. CITs are selected through an interview process. Applications for the popular program are available at the CRC.
