The skinny: It’s Northwestern’s last regularly scheduled chance to beat Penn State senior guard Talor Battle. The Wildcats are 0-5 against him, and just one of the contests was close. NU offered its most disappointing effort of the year Feb. 13 when Penn State defended its home court 65-41. The Wildcats’ worst scoring output since Juice Thompson’s freshman year was fueled by 2 of 21 shooting from 3-point range. Surely the Wildcats will be more like the team that canned 23 of 52 3-pointers in last week’s wins over Iowa and Indiana — though there’s still the large matter of figuring out how to stop Battle and Co. Neither the matchup zone nor the 1-3-1 trap seems to bother them. As soon as the ball goes up, Thompson becomes NU’s all-time leader in games with 122.
