State pols, pay for your own rides
Let’s be fair. If seniors have to give up their free rides on the CTA, PACE and Metra because their income is too high, then I’m only guessing that Governor Quinn and all of our state politicians have turned in the keys to all of the state-leased car they are driving around in.
If our tax money cannot be used to help seniors, then it should not be used to pay for state-leased cars or planes. The average person who goes to work drives there, uses their own car, and pays for gas and insurance for that car. So Illinois politicians, you can’t have it both ways.
Give up the state cars and planes and pay your own way, just like all the people you work for, or take a cut in pay so that you qualify for that free ride. That’s was $27,610 if single and $36,635 for households with two incomes.
Let’s not be greedy: we pay your salary and your health insurance; it’s time you pay your own way to and from work.
