Scouting: Central Michigan @ Northern Illinois

Central Michigan (8-18, 5-7) at Northern Illinois (7-18, 3-9)

When: 7 p.m. at NIU Convocation Center

Radio: WKRS 1220-AM, WJOL 1340-AM, WLBK 1360-AM

The skinny: Going into the Huskies’ visit to Central Michigan on Jan. 20, NIU stood 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the MAC. Then the Chippewas edged NIU 66-64 that night (freshman sensation Trey Zeigler blocked Xavier Silas’ game-tying 18-foot jumper shortly before time ran out) and the Huskies have never regained momentum. Coincidentally enough, Silas and Zeigler are 1-2 in scoring during MAC games. As for the Huskies’ slump, they’ve dropped 9 of their last 10 games. Lest your jaw drop at that slide: NIU lost 10 of its last 11 in 2007-08, 8 out of 9 in 2008-09 and 10 in a row last season. The Huskies scored a season-low 48 points in Saturday’s home loss to Seattle.
