Music events: Truckers, Plain White T's return

Southern sound

The Drive-By Truckers have both reclaimed and redefined the classic Southern rock sound, combining a multiple-guitar attack with literate lyrics and a flair for complex musical arrangements. Patterson Hood, lead songwriter and the band's driving force, sings in a distinctive growl that alternates between tender and ticked off. The band absolutely tears it up onstage, so if you're looking for a rousing night of rock, this is the show to get to. The Drive-By Truckers perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Vic Theatre, 3145 N. Sheffield, Chicago. $25. Go to jamusa.com.

A night of twang

The Buckley Road Band, a seven-piece outfit that performs covers of current country-music hits and old-school classics, will take the stage in Lincolnshire this weekend. 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Cubby Bear North, 21661 N. Milwaukee, Lincolnshire. Free. Go to cubbynorth.com.

Return of the T's

DuPage County rockers the Plain White T's are hitting the road in support of their new record, “Wonders of the Younger,” which came out at the end of 2010 on Hollywood Records. The album features plenty of the band's anthemic pop sound and lyrics that contemplate whether it's possible to recapture the marvel of youth. The band will play in the city this weekend. The Plain White T's perform with Parachute and MIGGS at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn, Chicago. $20.50. Go to houseofblues.com.
