Man killed by tire that dislodged from bus
RACINE, Wis. — Racine County authorities say two tires dislodged from a moving school bus and flew into oncoming traffic, where one struck a pickup truck and killed its driver.
The sheriff's office says the accident was reported Saturday afternoon. Deputies say the bus was carrying college students back to the Chicago area after they spent the day at a ski resort.
Authorities say two rear tires on the driver's side of the bus apparently came off. One of the tires hit the front of a truck driven by 23-year-old Hampton B. Waring. The East Troy man suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No passengers on the bus reported any injuries.
The sheriff's office says the bus driver was cooperative at the scene and has not been cited.
