Highland Park man charged with conspiring to aid Taliban
A Highland Park man is among seven defendants charged this week with selling drugs and weapons in an effort to help the Taliban fight U.S. troops overseas.
Oded Orbach and his wife raised two sons in the well-to-do suburb of Highland Park.
He now faces federal terrorism charges in New York. He's accused of arranging to sell anti-tank missiles, grenade launchers and other weapons to the Taliban.
Orbach was arrested in Romania last week and is being held there while he awaits extradition to the United States.
Neighbors told WMAQ-TV and the Chicago Tribune that the charges against Orbach are hard to believe.
Bruce Brandel, who says he was a longtime business associate of Orbach's, says the allegations are "absolutely out of character."
