On forgiveness and Jane Fonda
On forgiveness and Jane Fonda
Wow, I just love those bluebird of happiness folks out there. I wrote a note regarding Jane Fonda and her “unforgivable” actions back during the Vietnam War. Margery Frisbie felt I had an absence of forgiveness and lack of accuracy using terms such as “claimed and “alleged.” Having met more than one veteran who spent time in a prison camp in North Vietnam and Hanoi, plus having listened to the comments by Fonda as told to Lesley Stahl in a “60 Minutes” program, it clearly is not “claimed” or “alleged” that Fonda admitted having a “lapse in judgment” regarding her actions in North Vietnam. What Fonda did not say was that she was sorry or asks forgiveness!
Margery Frisbie should check her facts. She also writes about forgiveness in the same note while mentioning “fascist days of Germany.” Tortured POWs in Vietnam, acts of treason, fascist days of Germany and forgiveness just don’t work for me.
“When a person forgives another, he is promising to do three things about the intended wrongdoing: not to use it against the wrongdoer in the future; not to talk about it to others; and not to dwell on it himself.” — Jay Adams
I am not there yet.
