Elgin man dies in Elmhurst crash

A 51-year-old Elgin man died as a result of a single-car accident Wednesday afternoon in Elmhurst, authorities said Friday.

Gregory Clough was driving an older-model pickup truck west on Interstate 290 near Route 83 in Elmhurst about 2:05 p.m. Wednesday when the crash occurred, state police Sgt. Brent Hop said.

“The road curves there and he kept going straight, left the roadway and struck a light pole,” Hop said.

First responders think a health condition, such as a heart attack or stroke, may have led to the crash, Hop said, but that is still under investigation.

The DuPage County coroner’s office performed an autopsy on Clough, but the cause of his death has not been determined pending toxicology results, officials said Friday.

Clough was the only person in the vehicle, which was not heavily damaged, Hop said.
