Palatine’s Cafe Fourteen celebrates 20 years

In an age when many restaurants struggle to achieve longevity, it’s refreshing to see a welcoming establishment reach a significant milestone.

Palatine’s Cafe Fourteen is celebrating such an anniversary with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, to mark 20 years in business.

“We’re a family-oriented, friendly place and know most of our customers by name,” said Diane Tragas, who runs Cafe Fourteen with her father and sisters. “We invite everyone, new and old, to stop by.”

Mayor Jim Schwantz and others will be on-hand at the ribbon cutting to recognize the restaurant, located at 300 N. Northwest Highway.

Tragas said between the homemade soups, all-day breakfast and Italian, Mexican and Greek specialties on the menu, there’s fare for everyone. And for about $10, you get a complete dinner of bread, soup or salad, potato, vegetable, entree, dessert and coffee or tea.

“It’s hard to beat that deal,” Tragas said.
