Health care repeal would be setback
Congressional Republicans, intent on health care repeal, claim to speak “for the American people.” Yet, the GOP repeatedly ignores current polling showing that only 18 percent of Americans favor full repeal of the Democrats’ landmark Affordable Care Act.
Sure, the Act could use some streamlining and strengthening, but throwing out the baby with the bath water would prove a huge setback to the millions of Americans already benefiting from the new law.
My mother and many other seniors in my community will be helped starting this year with free preventive care and with lower prescription drug costs thanks to the doughnut-hole fix.
My young-adult nieces, both with pre-existing conditions, will be able to stay on their father’s health plan until age 26 thanks to the new law.
We “get” that Republicans don’t like government. But there are some things that apparently only government can do for the American people — including ensuring that insurance companies treat their customers — us — fairly.
