Naperville man may bond out in porn case

A DuPage County judge reduced bail Wednesday to $100,000 for a Naperville teen accused of downloading child pornography.

Christian Brown, 19, of the 1500 block of Fairway Drive, has been in the county jail on $250,000 bail since his Jan. 19 arrest.

At a hearing Wednesday, defense attorney Michael Krejci told Judge Daniel Guerin the defendant’s family could post a $10,000 bond, or 10 percent of $100,000. He said Brown, who lives with his mother, has been cooperative with authorities and was recently offered a job in food service should he bond out of jail.

“He’s a 19-year-old kid who’s naïve of the law and the consequences,” Krejci said.

Brown was charged as the result of an investigation into illegal file sharing in which officers pinpointed him downloading child pornography, Assistant State’s Attorney Jae Kwon said.

Authorities subsequently searched Brown’s home, finding him in bed with a laptop that contained four pornographic videos involving children as young as 3 and “possibly younger,” Kwon said.

“The defendant stated to detectives that he was unsettled (by the images) but did watch them,” Kwon said.

Brown has pleaded not guilty to four counts of aggravated child pornography possession. The felony charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, but is also punishable by probation.

Guerin ordered Brown to have no unsupervised contact with children should he be released pretrial. His next court date is April 6.
