Indy parking meters to take credit cards in March
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis parking meters will take on a new look in a few weeks.
The Indianapolis Star reports a group of companies that signed a 50-year lease of the city's parking meters plans to begin installing units that accept credit cards in the first week of March.
The team led by Dallas-based Affiliated Computer Services Inc. is paying $20 million to lease 3,700 metered parking spaces in downtown and Broad Ripple.
Expanded meter hours and higher rates take effect in early April.
A second phase of installation in the late spring or early summer will replace many new individual space meters with pay boxes on each city block.
