Becky Hume named new Arlington Heights clerk
Becky Hume, volunteer coordinator at the Arlington Heights Senior Center, has been named Arlington Heights Village Clerk, Village Manager Bill Dixon announced Wednesday.
She will replace Edwina Corso, who is retiring after 35 years with the village.
“In the public’s eye they think of this person in the role of keeping records at board meetings,” Dixon said. “But being able to access information of a historic nature is a big part of the job as well.”
Dixon said Hume’s three years volunteering as secretary of ABC/25, the foundation dedicated to raising money for Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 schools, made her “essentially their village clerk.”
The clerk also has election responsibilities and has to find historic documents when people file Freedom of Information Act requests. Dealing with the public is another important part of the job, said Dixon.
He also credited Hume’s degree in journalism and English from Indiana University.
Corso is retiring as part of a village plan to trim expenses. Health insurance payments for two years was offered as an incentive for employees to retire early.
Hume will be paid $57,996 annually. Corso made $81,559 a year.
Four current village employees, including Hume, applied for the job, Dixon said.
