The skinny: The Blue Demons are running out of time to find that elusive Big East win. The 14th-place Friars look like a decent candidate, but they’ve started to defend their home court with regularity. Their last three home games have been victories over Louisville, Villanova and South Florida. One of DePaul’s bigger issues has been defense. Eight of their 12 Big East opponents hit better than 50 percent of their shots — and it’s not all because the Demons’ full-court press gives up easy baskets from time to time. Freshman Cleveland Melvin (17.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg in Big East games) needs to keep rolling in order to ensure the league’s freshman of the year honors.
