Plow driver comes through

On Feb. 3 my driveway had more than 10 feet of snow. I could not open my back door, and when I opened my garage door the snow was to my waist.

I have an 87-year-old husband who has Parkinson’s disease, and I thought what if I needed medical help?

I started calling for help. I called Kane County because my road, Big Timber, is a county road — no help. I called Rutland Township because I live in the township — a voice mail said to leave a message. Then I called Hampshire Police because my address is Hampshire — no help.

Then I called Pingree Grove. When I told them my problem, they said if I needed medical help they would send a fire truck first. A fire truck could not have gotten through.

Well, my last resort was the Daily Herald. I called and talked to the editor of the Daily Herald who said he would send a photographer. The photographer came and could not get in my drive, but she did take pictures.

Now, I have a plow driver who does my drive all the time, and he could not get in my drive. He stopped a Rutland plow driver and asked if he could just open the drive. Three pushes of the plow and he said he couldn’t do more. Well, that left my plow driver with about 15 feet of snow in the middle of my drive. My driver told me he would get my drive clean.

Well, on the morning of Feb. 4 up pulled a truck with a Bobcat and my driver. It took the Bobcat driver two hours to just get through, and then my driver and him kept working and finally my drive was clean. If it were not for Jim Hartline of Elgin, I would still be buried in snow. This man kept his promise and made sure we were taken care of.
