Adjust police services in Cook

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart seems to need other ways to cut his budget.

There are small pockets of unicorporated areas where police protection is provided by the sheriff’s department. Many of these areas are surrounded by fully developed incorporated areas that have police departments.

The unicorporated areas need to contract for fire protection and garbage removal now. If the closest area is willing to provide police protection for additional revenue it would lessen the manpower needed to provide this service.

Cook County is very large. In an emergency the time to respond is important. By eliminating this service to as many areas as possible and providing closer police protection to these areas, more funding would be received locally. It might be easier for Mr. Dart to cut costs without cutting service to these areas if the incorporated areas are willing.
