Bond cut for suspect in 1982 Round Lake Beach murder

Bond was reduced to $1.5 million Tuesday for the suspect in a 1982 murder in Round Lake Beach.

The move by Lake County Associate Judge Raymond Collins to cut $1 million from the bond for Robert Bostic, 70, still requires Bostic to post $150,000 in cash to be freed from custody.

Bostic, of Kingston, Tenn., was charged last month with the June 25, 1982, shooting death of Carlton Richmond, 31.

Police said Bostic and Richmond were members of a motorcycle club that used a garage at a Round Lake Beach house in the 800 block of Oakwood Drive as a bar and clubhouse.

On the night of the shooting, police said, several people were in the garage when an argument broke out between Bostic and Richmond.

Four witnesses who had originally refused to cooperate with investigators recently told police they saw Bostic shoot Richmond in the chest, officials said.

A warrant was issued for Bostic’s arrest, and he agreed to waive extradition to Illinois after being taken into custody in Tennessee.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jason Humke opposed any reduction in Bostic’s bond Tuesday, citing Bostic’s 1977 conviction for aggravated battery as well as the current charges.

But defense attorney Joseph Salvi argued in favor of lowering his client’s bond, claiming that Bostic was neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community.

Collins told Bostic he is not to leave the state if he is able to come up with the money to get out of jail, and ordered him to appear in court again on March 2.

Salvi declined to comment after the hearing.
