One innocent put to death too many
I respond to Mr. Labuda’s Jan. 29 letter regarding capital punishment.
I understand your absolute revulsion as you consider people who murder the innocent. I would go even further and say that those who harm/mutilate others even in an unsuccessful attempt deserve to be put to death.
But we can say with utter certainty that as capital punishment continues in this country that innocent people will be murdered by their government, despite any and all steps to avoid it. It’s happened before. It will happen again. And the only way to avoid it is to stop capital punishment 100 percent.
I am no bleeding heart. But I am unwilling to sacrifice my loved ones or friends or any innocent people in order to maintain capital punishment. And it is my firm belief that nobody should be.
