‘High Spirits’ comes to Palatine’s Cutting Hall
The Palatine-based repertory company LZP Productions will perform “High Spirits,” the Broadway musical based on Noel Coward’s comedy “Blithe Spirit,” beginning Saturday at Cutting Hall in Palatine.
The opening show will be at 8 p.m. at the theater, 150 E. Wood St. Ensuing performances are scheduled through Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. There is no performance on Friday, Feb. 18.
“High Spirits” tells the story of Charles Condomine, a writer who hosts a seance conducted by a local medium with the intention of learning the medium’s “tricks” to use in his new novel. His assumption the medium is a fraud gets turned on its ear when she conjures up Charles’ late wife, Elvira, who shows up to taunt and haunt Charles. Ruth, Charles’ new wife, thinks he is joking until she witnesses poltergeist pranks.
The show, a Broadway hit in the 1960s, features the music of Timothy Gray and Hugh Martin, the latter of which also scored “Meet Me in St. Louis.”
