South Elgin junior Becca Smith scored a career-high 41 points Thursday night, including 34 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Storm fell to Metea Valley 78-68 in overtime in an Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division game in Naperville.

Kara Rodriguez added 10 points for the Storm (12-13, 4-7) and Savanah Uveges had 9.

Batavia 57, Elgin 28: Briana Hamilton had 10 points for the Maroons (0-25, 0-11) in this Upstate Eight River loss. “It was our best defensive effort of the season and I’m proud of our seniors,” said Elgin coach Dr. Nick Bumbales.

Hampshire 61, Woodstock North 30: Hampshire (25-2) tuned up for next week’s regionals with an easy nonconference win over Woodstock North. Karla Vietinghoff led the way for the Whip-Purs with 18 points, Alex Dumoulin added 13 and Jessie Van Dorin had 9.
