Northwest Cultural Cuncil plans exhibit, poetry reading
An artists’ reception and poetry reading will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Northwest Cultural Council’s gallery space at Arlington Green Executive Centre, 2101 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Admission is free.
Acrylic paintings by Robert Cobb, of Rolling Meadows, and fiber art by Valerie Rodelli, of Inverness, both artists in the council’s Corporate Gallery Program, are on display. The council believes exposure to artwork will expand an observer’s appreciation of art and artists.
Through the years the council has recognized and promoted poetry as an important art form. The council encourages all people, but especially young people, to read, understand and learn to write poetry. An important part of NWCC’s commitment to poetry is the Second Saturday Poetry Workshops, which have been held monthly for 12 years.
During the reception, Angela Narciso Torres of Glenview, Deborah Nodler Rosen of Glencoe, and Carol Eding of Chicago will read from their works — just a few of the many accomplished, published poets who lead the workshops.
Some participants will read selections from their own works, as well. Several aspiring poets who have been regular attendees at the workshops have also begun to have their poems published.
The exhibition can be viewed 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. Admission is free.
