Naperville ex-con charged after DUI rollover
A 20-year-old Naperville man who served time for an armed robbery attempt is behind bars once again after running from his rolled-over vehicle early Wednesday morning, police said.
Eric T. Maschmeier faces a number of charges including leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury and driving under the influence, said Naperville Police Commander Ken Parcel.
A female passenger remained at the scene of the wreck at the intersection of 75th Street and Fort Hill Drive, which occurred around 2:30 a.m., Parcel said. She was not injured, but Maschmeier, who fled to his house on the 800 block of South Julian Street, was located by police at 4:30 a.m. with minor injuries, police said.
A witness told police Maschmeier was driving “near 100 miles per hour” down the four-lane road with a 50-mph speed limit before losing control of the vehicle, Parcel said.
Police are still investigating the crash, but said the 100 mph estimate could not be confirmed as of Wednesday night.
It is not clear whether Maschmeier ran back to his house, located about 3.5 miles from the crash, or if he was picked up, Parcel said.
Maschmeier served time in 2009 after being convicted on a felony charge of attempted armed robbery committed in 2008 when he was 18, according to Daily Herald reports.
He, along with four others, attempted to hold up a 19-year-old man at Mill Ponds Apartments in November of 2008. The five offenders fled when the man began to dial 911 on his cell phone. Maschmeier was able to elude police that night as his four accomplices were caught, but police located him at his residence shortly after, according to Daily Herald reports.
Maschmeier was sentenced to six years in prison and entered jail in August of 2009. He was paroled on Jan. 13, 2010, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.
