Men held on drug, impostor charges

Two Wisconsin men who police say were transporting heroin in a car where a passenger was overdosing were ordered held on $10,000 bond Monday in Lake County Circuit Court.

Police said Aaron Stoen, 23, also tried to convince them he was a full-time firefighter for the Kenosha Fire Department.

Lake County Sheriff’s police said Stoen, Thomas Wojitowicz, 21, and Melody Pratt, 22, all of Twin Lakes. Wis., were stopped by a deputy around 3 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of routes 120 and 60 in Volo.

Police said Pratt was overdosing on heroin at the time of the traffic stop, and Stoen was preparing to inject her with Narcan, an adrenaline-based narcotic used to counter the effects of overdoses.

When the deputy asked Stoen how he happened to have Narcan, police said, Stoen said he was a firefighter in Kenosha. Officials checked with the fire department and discovered that was untrue, police said, and he was placed under arrest.

A search turned up 12 small bags of heroin, police said, and Stoen and Wojitowicz were charged with possession of heroin with the intent to deliver.

Stoen is also charged with impersonating a firefighter, police said.

Stoen and Wojitowicz appeared before Associate Judge Raymond Collins on Monday morning and were both ordered to return to court Feb. 24.

Pratt is likely to be charged when she is released from Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, police said.
