‘Casablanca’ radio play for Valentine’s Day

An exotic locale. Nazis. A rousing rendition of “La Marseillaise.” Here’s looking at you, kid. Or rather, here’s listening to you.

Join RG Productions at the PM&L Theatre, 877 N. Main St., Antioch, for one of the greatest stories of all time, just in time for Valentine’s Day. RG Productions, a local theater group that brings staged versions of the classics such as “War of the Worlds,” “The Third Man,” and “Frankenstein” to life, has teamed up with PM&L Theater for a presentation of “Casablanca,” to coincide with the Valentine’s Day weekend.

The radio play, which originally aired on Lux Radio Theater in 1944, will feature experienced radio actors, live music and live sound effects. In an intriguing twist, portions of the original film will also be interspersed within the radio play. Among the cast of 10 actors are stars Doug Despin of Kenosha as Rick, Leslie Utech of Racine as Ilsa and Ed Godula of Kenosha as Sam.

Two performances will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12: a 2:30 p.m. matinee that costs $5 per person; and an 8 p.m. date night performance, $10 per person, which will include dessert. Tickets can be purchased at the door. An RSVP for the evening performance is appreciated by calling (847) 395-3055 and leaving your name and the number in your party.

The show will have a radio broadcast on WRLR-FM 98.3 during Rick Hagerty’s Radio Roots show at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22. You can also hear it on the Internet at that time on wrlr.fm.
