BGHS 'Idol' contest to collect for autism research

What with “American Idol,” back on TV, it's officially “Idol” season across the land. Buffalo Grove High School's student council will use its high-profile event, BG IDOL, to raise money for Autism Speaks.

The competition on Feb. 9 will be held during all three lunch periods in the school theater, where courageous staffers have volunteered to belt out songs — regardless of talent — before a packed audience of students and staff. The essence of the contest is to collect as much money as possible to fund research, raise awareness and find a cure for autism and related disorders.

Each participating BG staff member will collect money in a bucket the week before BG IDOL. After the contest, collections will be tallied to determine the winners and the student council gives a check to Autism Speaks. For information on the disorder, which affects one in 110 children, visit autismspeaks.org.
