Rt. 83 at Foster now open after rollover

Route 83 near Bensenville reopened in both directions Saturday afternoon, after being shut down so emergency crews could remove a truck that rolled over carrying 43,000 pounds of frozen food, police said.

No one was hurt in the crash that occurred about 11:08 a.m. near the Route 83 intersection with Foster Avenue, according to the Bensenville Fire Department.

The truck’s driver told authorities he was attempting to make a left turn south on to Route 83 when the semitrailer tipped over, the fire department said. The northbound and southbound lanes were closed as cleanup crews removed the trailer.

Authorities did not say what kind of food the truck was hauling, but they said the food did not fall out of the truck into the roadway.
