Super Bowl enforcement in Gurnee
Gurnee police will wrap up a special impaired driving crackdown Sunday to coincide with Super Bowl XLV. Police began the extra enforcement for Super Bowl week that started Jan. 28. Gurnee authorities said the crackdown is warranted, citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics showing 48 percent of traffic fatalities are alcohol-related on Super Bowl Sunday.
They added that men ages 21 to 34 are most likely to drive while impaired and not wear seat belts. “We will show zero tolerance for impaired drivers,” Police Chief Robert Jones said. “So remember, designate a sober driver before the party begins.”
