Palatine woman charged with credit card crime
A 36-year-old Palatine woman was charged with unlawful use of a credit card following a December shopping spree in which authorities say she made purchases totaling more than $2,000 on a credit card that did not belong to her.
A Cook County Circuit Court Judge set bail at $15,000 Friday for Latonya Floyd, of the 1200 block of N. Williams Drive.
Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Cotter said Floyd first used the credit card at a Palatine children’s store in early December where she charged more than $700 worth of merchandise. The owner of the credit card canceled it sometime between Dec. 6 and Dec. 30, Cotter said. At that time, Cotter said, the defendant began using the victim’s new card.
Cotter did not elaborate on the relationship between the victim and defendant or how Floyd could have gained access to the credit card.
On Dec. 30, Floyd purchased more than $273 worth of merchandise from a Palatine office supply store and $1,100 from a discount retail store, Cotter said.
Police arrested Floyd on Feb. 1, after store employees identified her as the individual who used the credit card, Cotter said.
Floyd next appears in court on Feb. 25.
