Stretch of Reinking Road in Pingree Grove still unplowed
All roads in Pingree Grove but a 2-mile stretch of Reinking Road north of Route 72 have been cleared of snow, said Bill Barlow, interim village administrator.
“It’s a gravel road, and it’s pretty well drifted over,” he said, adding that village crews will return there tomorrow to get it plowed. There are two houses off that stretch of road, but no calls had come into the village from those residents as of this morning, he said.
Village crews are currently working on re-salting roads and widening intersections and cul-de-sacs that are full of snow, Barlow said.
Pingree Grove Police Chief Carol Lussky said the village received calls from about 40 to 60 stranded vehicles during the storm, the majority of them along Route 47 between Route 72 and Big Timber Road.
Because the unplowed roads were impassable, police officers weren’t able to get to the first stranded car until 1 p.m. Wednesday and worked to tow vehicles until midnight, said Lussky, who was among three officers who worked a 24-hour shift between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Members of the Hampshire White Riders snowmobile club helped rescue people during the storm, bringing those who accepted offers for help to a nearby gas station, she said, adding the police department was grateful for the help.
