Hanover Park police warn of ongoing burglary scam

The Hanover Park Police Department is warning residents of an ongoing burglary scam that typically targets senior residents.

Suspects approach homeowners and advise them of a problem with their property or a service issue such as water main breaks or damaged fences. While homeowners are distracted, another participant in the scheme steals valuables from inside the residence.

The most recent attempt occurred in the area of Santa Anita and Arlington Drive, police said. The suspect was described as a heavyset Hispanic male, about 5-foot-10, with a goatee. He drove a white Chevrolet Suburban.

Police said residents shouldn’t let anyone into their homes who was not previously contacted regarding a repair issue.
