Director’s cut: ‘Gypsy’ is all about pursuing dreams

One of the biggest questions asked in “Gypsy” is “Why?”

“Why did I do it?”

We are all motivated by different things in life. Our families, our work and even our passion can motivate us to do many things.

In the show, we all want to think that what motivates Rose to push her children so much is her love for them. And while she did love June and Louise, we find that it was all for self-motivation — living the life she always wanted through her two girls.

It was through them that Rose tried to live the life she felt she missed out on. She learned the hard way that pushing others in the direction you’re wanting to go doesn’t always lead you to your desired destination. This is a lesson all too familiar.

We all have dreams and we all have passion. Following those dreams at times doesn’t seem to be the most popular of choices these days. All too often we find people judging others for following their dreams or passion.

Can you think of a better way to live life? Your passion becomes your “work.” You wake every day to find you are being paid to live your dream. Rose forced all those in her life to live her dream and to follow her path. She missed out on life and love because of this.

If you walk away with one thing from spending an evening with us watching “Gypsy,” please take with you a dream of ours. That you open up communication with your friends and family about their own passion in life.

Do you really know what your spouse always wanted to grow up to be? Do you really know what your children day dream of? Are you living your dream life? Are you nurturing your passion? If not, ask yourself the question. Why?

On behalf of Summer Place Theatre and Traveling Trunk Entertainment, thank you for supporting our dream.
