Barrington continuing progress on cleanup
Barrington reported immense progress Thursday in its efforts to remove snow during the 24 hours after the blizzard moved through the region Wednesday.
While major roads were passable in time for Thursday morning’s commute, snowplow crews were continuing to work on getting residential streets cleared and pushing large piles of snow out of the public’s way and off buried fire hydrants, Village Manager Jeff Lawler said.
Barrington Unit District 220 called a second snow day on Thursday, but Lawler believes that had more to do with concerns about its own school parking lots than the state of the roads.
The village already was over budget on snow removal this winter due to the number of smaller snowfalls. But even this week’s blizzard was something Barrington was prepared for and not likely to cause too severe a financial impact, Lawler said.
