Wheeling police join effort to clear roads, help drivers

Wheeling officials say they’re making progress on clearing snow from village roads, but continue to recommend that residents stay home if they can.

Workers and police spent most of Tuesday night helping motorists stranded along Wolf Road near the Chicago Executive Airport. Several factories in the area let out their employees late on Tuesday and they got stuck trying to get home, Deputy Police Chief John Teevans said.

A few Wheeling police officers joined the snow removal efforts by driving plows to clear streets, said.

“It’s been a long night and we’re just starting to work on the side streets now,” Teevans said Wednesday afternoon. “People should still stay in, however, unless there is a major reason to leave.”
