Streets are clear, now crews are trying to unblock driveways
The streets in Rolling Meadows are pretty much down to wet pavement by Wednesday afternoon, and public works crews are going back to unplug driveways, said Mayor Ken Nelson.
Algonquin Road, a state highway, was closed for a while, and the city had snow plows accompany fire trucks and ambulances when they went on calls, said Nelson.
While he did not think any emergency vehicles got stuck in the snow, one did have a call at Algonquin Road and Meijer Drive and needed a plow in front of it to get back.
The city put public works employees on 12-hour shifts and hired some retired workers with snowplow experience to work the emergency, said Nelson.
Residents were calling in today to see if the city could remove the snow that plows had dumped at the end of their driveways, so they were working with smaller equipment to do that this afternoon, he said.
Grocery stores are open today, but they seem short staffed and low on customers, Nelson said.
