No rush hour in Arlington Heights

Just past 8 a.m. in downtown Arlington Heights, no cars could be seen traveling down Arlington Heights Road in either direction.

Christian Liberty Academy was barely visible from just a block away.

Streets were plowed, but few residents had been able to clear their driveways. Powerful snowblowers sputtered as they tried to clear the 18 to 20 inches that had fallen.

Neighborhood children were spotted measuring the snowfall with rulers, and digging tunnels, shrieking as snow plows barreled down Walnut Avenue and showered them with snow.

A number of Mount Prospect residents reported that they had lost power overnight and it was not yet back on by 8:30 a.m.

At what would usually be a busy traffic time at Arlington Heights Road and Walnut in Arlington Heights, no cars were in sight just after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Kerry Lester/klester@dailyherald.com
