After dealing with snow, Long Grove now contends with blizzard’s costs
The Village of Long Grove’s offices are closed Wednesday in the wake of Tuesday’s blizzard that could stretch village finances to their limits.
Village President Maria Rodriguez said the village was well prepared for the storm, and credited Emergency Management Coordinator Marc Small, who worked directly with a contracted plowing service throughout the night.
Small also reached out to residents through the Connect-CTY village-to-resident notification system, which provides updates on emergency situations.
Rodriguez said while the village managed well enough during the storm itself, its aftermath has her worried.
“We’re concerned about the cost of removing this much snow,” she said, noting that every suburb is probably feeling the same way.
“The cost of removing this much snow and then salting is a budget breaker,” she added. “Our budget is so lean right now.”
Rodriguez said the storm was uneventful in terms of power outages or other serious occurrences, while the streets were kept clean, with plows working in the middle of the night.
“People paid attention (to the warnings),” she said appreciatively. “They stayed home.”
