A day for homework — and hot chocolate

A few brave souls trudged through the snow-filled parking lot of the Meadowdale shopping center in Carpentersville to reach relatives’ homes.

Cynette Badney was one of them. She wasn’t able to make it to work in Algonquin, so she decided to head to her mother’s house, accompanied by her brother and cousin. Her first struggle was making it out the door.

“We had to flip over the snow just to get out of my house,” Badney said.

Her cousin, Cody Reed, said it took him three hours to get to his home in Carpentersville Tuesday after school let out at South Elgin High School.

“Yesterday was way worse,” said Cody, a 17-year-old junior. “The snow was pushing me over.”

Cody said he was looking forward to a cup of hot chocolate and a bit of homework.

“I finished most of mine, just got to do some geometry,” he said.
