If there were, it is not likely a challenger would provide the voters with more experience, committment, time and knowledge in regard to the duties of a Village trustee.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Taxes are always too high. However, the benefits of a wellmanaged stream of sales tax revenue are essential to taxpayers and businesses. In that regard, I believe Mundelein's level of sales taxes is right for the fiscal challenges we are facing. As the economy improves and receipts go up, I would like to see the Home Rule portion of our sales tax reduced and, eventually, eliminated.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.I do not hear a great amount of voiced concern from residents in regard to serious public safety problems. People are much more concerned about ""big government"" effects. They are against the insitution of new requirements like the landlord registration. They simply wish to be free to enjoy their property without interference from their government and I tend to agree with them in most cases. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Mundelein has made some budget cuts and is in good financial condition. I believe future cuts may have to be made in capital expenditures for infrastructure improvements and equipment. These cuts, if needed, will result in greater expense in the future as the Village catches up with delayed projects and purchases.What#146;s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?We need to acquire more space in the downtown to provide for a ""gateway"" park like ammenity to the TOD redevelopment area.
