I voted against the increase because I believe it was too large.Key Issue 2 There are still some large, undeveloped properties within and adjacent to the village limits. We need to ensure they are developed in a way that is consistent with the village goals of maintaining a good mixture of residential, retail, and industrial poperties in the village to ensure sustainable growth.Key Issue 3 Candidate did not respond.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?All three candidates are strong candidates with experience in public service. I have served on the board for nearly eight years and have helped guide the village through both good and difficult economic environments. The current difficult economic times require someone willing to dig in and scrutinize everything we spend to ensure we are spending in the right places. I have consistently done this throughout my tenure and have recomended simple changes that resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings without impacting the quality of services provided by the village.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.I believe the sales tax or the villages portion of the property tax could be lower.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed. We are very fortunate to live in a village as safe as Lincolnshire. There have been some safety concerns related to traffic in various areas, but the board has alwasys been quick to react and correct them.In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?We owe it to the residents to keep our spending as low as possible while maintaining the desired levels of services. Over the last couple of years, the board has made significant cuts to the budget. We need to continue to ensure the village is running as efficiently as possible. In the most recent budget cycle, I proposed we investigate the refinancing our current debt. This will result in the savings of about $200,000 for the village. It is this common sense approach that I will continue to use as we move forward.What#146;s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I was a proponent of the continued beautification of the village (if possible during these tough economic times). I supported the use of a grant from the Federal Government to support improvements on Riverwoods Road that will remove invasive Buckthorn and plant native trees and shrubs. This will be done with very little village contribution (about 20% of the cost).
