City offers winter storm updates
Garbage and Recycling Collection on Wednesday Canceled; Upper Levels of Van Buren and Chicago Avenue Parking Decks Closed
With severe winter weather expected to strike the Naperville area by nightfall, city departments continue to work closely together to ensure the safety of residents.
The Department of Public Works will deploy full snow removal operations throughout the storm and staffing resources from the Department of Public Utilities will supplement these efforts as needed.
“Our biggest concern with this storm is ensuring motorists stay off the roads for their own safety, as visibility will be extremely low,” Community Relations Manager Nadja Lalvani said. “If folks can stay home and off the streets, our snow removal operations will be much more efficient as well.”
The city asks people to not call 9-1-1 for minor traffic incidents that can be reported during normal business hours at the police department. Residents with questions about road and city department closures should visit the city's website for updates at www.naperville.il.us instead of calling City Dispatch. Some important information for residents, businesses and visitors to keep in mind during the forecasted storm:
• Vehicles abandoned on main arterial roadways may be relocated to allow plows to clear the streets.
• Allied Waste and Resource Management, the city's waste and recycling contractors, will delay their Wednesday, February 2 garbage and recycling collection by one day. Garbage and recycling collection will occur one day later for the remainder of the week, with the Thursday collection occurring on Friday and the Friday collection occurring on Saturday.
• The upper levels of the Van Buren and Chicago Avenue parking decks are currently closed to prevent vehicles from becoming stranded by the predicted large snowfall. Stranded vehicles can make snow removal more challenging. The upper levels of these decks will remain closed until the snowfall stops and they can be plowed.
• The Naperville Emergency Management Agency is currently on standby to open the city's Emergency Operations Center if needed.
• Naper Settlement will be closed on Wednesday, February 2 due to the snow.
• All three Naperville Public Library buildings – Nichols, Naper Boulevard and the 95th Street Library – will close at 5 p.m. today, February 1, due to weather conditions.
