While I respect the job they have done, I believe a fresh perspective and someone with new ideas would be a benefit to the Fire District and the community.Key Issue 2 Budgets will always be an issue in any community. I believe new trustees could assist in making positive changes for the active emergency personnel, as well as, the community.Key Issue 3 Candidate did not respond.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?I am truly interested in being an active part of the Carol Stream community and ensuring that it is a safe place to live and work. I am involed with many members of the community though Park District programs, local businesses, sports, the local school district, youth activities and neighborhood events.Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am a first time candidate for the Fire Protection Board position. I have lived in Carol Stream for 8 years and am passionate about our community. I believe that my ideas and involvement would have a positive impact on the community and Fire District.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest fire safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.In speaking with friends and neighbors, you typically hear things such as ""lower our taxes"" and ""where is all the tax money that I pay going to?"". We need to make sure our budget is sound, however we also need to ensure that we have the proper equipment needed for the department, as well as, our community. We truly need to evaluate what we do and possibly do not need, to make our community safe and protected.In these tight economic times, budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?During 2010, I attended the Fire District board meetings to gain a better understand about their stance on the current budget and issues. I feel that the current board has overall, done a good job however, as with anything, I feel that there is always room for improvement.Would you support sharing/pooling resources (i.e. printing, vehicles) with other local governments (school districts, village, etc.)? If so, what areas would you consider combining or merging to save money or improve efficiencyI understand that sharing/pooling resources is something that the current board is considering at this time. While it will certainly assist in cutting costs, we truly need to evaluate what is best and safest for our community and emergency personnel. We need to determine that surrounding communities actually possess the appropriate equipment needed to be part of a sharing/pooling program prior to making a commitment. Each community needs to put forth the resources needed in order for this to be successful, otherwise we could just be putting ""wear and tear"" on our equipment and personnel.
