Scouting report

By Lindsey Willhite

Bowling Green (10-11, 5-2) at Northern Illinois (7-12, 3-4)

When: 7 p.m. at Convocation Center

Radio: WKRS 1220-AM, WJOL 1340-AM, WLBK 1360-AM

The skinny: The Falcons flew into DeKalb on Monday to avoid the blizzard, so this game should be played as planned. Bowling Green lost seven games in a row during nonconference play but owns an 8-2 mark over the last 10 as forward A’uston Calhoun finally has begun to live up to coach Louis Orr’s expectations. Calhoun has averaged 13.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in the last 11 games. He dovetails nicely with top scorer Scott Thomas (11.3 ppg), who’s also the only guy in the nation averaging at least 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game. Speaking of national phenomenons, NIU senior swingman Xavier Silas ranks second in scoring with 24.2 ppg. He’s all but assured of becoming the Huskies’ best single-season scorer since Paul Dawkins piled up 26.7 ppg in 1978-79.
