Sticky notes are annoying, helpful
The familiar yellow sticky note has been around for some time, and they are convenient. Reminders, marking a page in a book, notes on my computer, a comment stuck to a piece of mail, but now the sticky note has found its way to the front page of my daily newspaper.
Who thinks of these things? Sticky note ads will probably not bring salvation to slumping readership or slow the demise of a newspaper delivered to the front door. They do cut down on junk mail in your mailbox.
Never mind that you can’t read the news without removing the fool thing. My reaction has been similar to advertising printed upside down. I just don’t read it. I pull off the sticky note ad and “stick it” onto the pile of other junk ads that I strip out of the middle of the newspaper.
Alas, bright button that I am, I have found the “true use” for sticky note ads, lifting and turning the newspaper page without licking my finger.
Grasp the sticky ad with your right hand and apply to the bottom right corner of the paper. Lift and in one motion remove the sticky note ad while placing it in the same spot on the page below. Then repeat.
The process is smooth and can be completed while you look for news on the page that you are turning. There is absolutely no reason to lick your finger anymore.
One problem has arisen. The not-so-dry ink on the thinner recyclable page transfers to the sticky ad and after several uses, the sticky ad loses its sticky quality.
But never fear. Advertisers are not easily put off, and soon you will have a fresh sticky ad on the front page of your paper.
