Palatine church starts new playgroup

A Palatine church started a free playgroup for preschoolers and their caregivers who are looking for something to do this winter.

The playgroup runs from 9:30 to 11 a.m. every Thursday at the St. Paul United Church of Christ, 144 E. Palatine Road in Palatine. No registration is needed.

“The program is geared toward preschoolers, although my son is 9 years old and he’s helping out too,” said the Rev. Edit Mercer.

The playgroup will include puppet shows, snacks, arts and crafts and free play. There will also be some time for moms or dads to sit down and have a cup of tea.

“We’re a new church here and we want to connect with the younger folks,” Mercer said. “It’s not about pushing a religion, but giving moms something to do. Playgrounds aren’t good this time of year.”
