Fake cop pulls over woman in Naperville
Naperville police are looking for a man who impersonated a law enforcement officer on Thursday night.
A woman told investigators she was driving alone about 9:30 p.m. when she was stopped by an unmarked white car with flashing lights on Wolf’s Crossing Road, just west of 248th Street on Naperville’s southwest side.
The woman told police she was approached by a white man in his late 30s with a slender build and very short hair who was wearing a blue or black uniform and hat.
The woman was unharmed but told police the man made sexual comments. She said she drove from the scene and was not followed.
Police said no officers from Naperville, Aurora or the Will County sheriff’s office documented a traffic stop at that time or place.
Officials said Naperville police routinely use unmarked cars for traffic enforcement, but people who aren’t comfortable during such an incident are allowed to drive with caution to a lighted and populated location before stopping to speak with police.
In addition, officials said motorists always can call 911 to ask the dispatcher to confirm if the traffic stop is legitimate.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the traffic stop or was in the area at the time to call police at (630) 420-6726 or Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006.
