It’s the union, not the uniform

Instead of asking, “Should the retired Army colonel running for Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board have the right to wear his uniform in campaign photos?,” voters and taxpayers throughout the suburbs would be much better served if the Daily Herald was asking, “which school board candidates were endorsed and financed by the teachers unions?”

School board members are the ones who approve multimillion dollar union contracts, and it’s in the union’s best interest to see that their candidates are elected. Voters should applaud Mr. Golash for being honest and transparent about who he is — a patriot wanting to bring his perspectives to the school board. Instead of debating the merits of a school board candidate wearing a military uniform, a much more substantive story would be disclosing which candidates have been endorsed by the teachers union.
