Health insurers get around the law
In a recent conversation with a couple I have known for years, I learned that they are still supporting their son, recently graduated from college. In response to my “Wow! You can keep him on your insurance until he is 26,” they told me how their own insurance company gave them such a high rate for keeping him on their policy that they got a high deductible policy with high co-payments. This is surely an example of how insurance companies can work around the provisions in the recent health care reform legislation, especially when there is little to rein in their rising rates.
Every American deserves adequate, affordable and accessible health care. Maybe the public option will eventually become reality because of the actions of the health insurance corporations. How ironic!
